Soap is a great medium to start with. It's soft and easily carved away with no special tools. As you can see, we used Ivory soap, plastic knives and Popsicle sticks that were whittled to a point to do our carving. Covering the table is also a wise choice as it helps with clean up. M- was disappointed that his project wouldn't be using his new knife but the lessons about carving are still valuable.
So the first step once you have your soap open is draw the shape of what you want to carve on the surface of the soap.

You Will Need:
- 1 box Washing Soda (55 oz)
- 1 box Borax (76 oz)
- 1 bar Fels Naptha soap – grated
- 1 bar Ivory soap – grated (or microwaved!)
